Leggett & Platt was founded in 1883 by J.P. Leggett and C.D. Platt in Carthage, Missouri. The two partners invented the bedspring and built their company into what now is a Fortune 500 corporation with some 32,000 employee-partners worldwide. They have built adjustable sleep systems since 1973 and are the world's largest manufacturer.

L&P is committed to community service. Corporate offices are still based in Carthage - a town of about 11,000 people - and they contribute many resources to the region, including Student Learner Program for high school students, and scholarship and endowment programs to area colleges and universities.
