We all need a good night's rest, but not everyone can sleep soundly on a regular mattress. For such people, there are alternatives such as memory foam mattresses. These foam mattresses are different from spring mattresses in many ways.

Memory foam is made from a visco-elastic material that contours to your body's shape. Each time you lie down, no matter what position you are in, your heat and weight will cause the foam to mold to your body's exact curvature. Your weight will be distributed evenly and your spine will remain in its normal position.

The visco-elastic material from which memory foam is made was first developed by NASA in the 1970s. It is an Open Cell Space-Age foam that was developed to be used in space shuttles to reduce the effects of the gravitational forces that Astronauts would feel during take-off and return. Since then, memory foam was shown to be unique in the way it responded to temperature and also in ability to spread pressure over a greater surface area (and thereby reduce pressure points significantly).

The first company to realize the potential of memory foam for the consumer market was Tempur-Pedic®. They had worked on creating their own version of memory foam, and come up with a foam they called Tempur® that was much more durable than the original foam developed by NASA and still had the pressure reducing benefits of memory foam. Initially this Tempur® foam was used in medical applications, but soon they began to hear that patients who used the foam slept better, had less back pain or other pains in the morning, etc.The benefits were well recognized and Tempur-Pedic® began to sell the products to consumers as well. After a few years on the consumer market, other foam manufacturers saw the potential of memory foam and began to produce their own versions of memory foam.

Memory foam is heat and pressure sensitive so that no matter how many times you change your sleeping position, the mattress will continue to mold to your body. Since it is made of an elastic material, it will always resume its normal shape when you leave the bed. You will never see or feel any permanent indentations.

Memory foam mattresses reduce pain and irritation in the back, neck and shoulders. They have also been shown to help with headaches, muscle aches, pressure points, numbness, fatigue, insomnia, Fibromylagia as well as many more ailments. What's more? The mattresses are also very resistant to bacteria, mold, mildew and
dust-mites.

This amazing material has started a sleep revolution and has proven to people that a mattress does not have to be firm or soft, it can be both. Your mattress can be sensitive to your needs—firm where you need it and soft where you want it! These revolutionary memory foam mattresses create a custom fit for your body—virtually eliminating painful pressure points and greatly reducing your body's need to toss and turn in search of a comfortable, pain-free sleeping position.
